If a government uses the instruments of power in its hands for the purpose of leading a people to ruin, then rebellion is not only the right but also the duty of every individual citizen.

Racist banned from contact with all Big Issue sellers

A RACIST has been banned from approaching any Big Issue sellers after being convicted of breaching an anti-social behaviour order.Anthony David Tucker has been told he is in the “last chance saloon” after racially abusing a vendor selling the magazine in Barrow town centre on December 5 last year.

Burnley Crown Court heard yesterday Tucker, 47, had approached the female seller and had told her to “get rid of those teeth”, referring to her gold crowns.

Tucker then continued to abuse the Romanian woman, telling her to “go back to your own country” and accusing her of working illegally.

Tucker was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, with the condition that he is not to approach or communicate with any Big Issue sellers.

Mr Neil Fryman, prosecuting, said the female vendor, and a Mr Cummins, who was handing out Christian leaflets, had been frightened by the incident.

Mr Fryman said: “He went on to say ‘We paid for that, you’ve come to this country and got free treatment’. He then said ‘You are taking the p*** out of me and out of this country’. He said she was getting free medical treatment, claiming benefits and that she was a beggar.”

Tucker, who is unemployed, was overheard by members of the public, who were disgusted by his actions. One of the youths told Tucker he was a disgrace to England.

Mr Fryman said: “Mr Cummins felt afraid for the complainant and thought that the defendant may be violent. Mr Cummins was shaken by the whole incident and he was the one to report it to the police.”

Coordinators from the Big Issue spoke to Tucker, who told them he was unhappy with the vendors in Barrow town centre and said they were not declaring their earnings or paying tax. He accused the coordinators of colluding with the Romanians and assisting them with tax evasion.

Mr Fryman added: “He said on the phone that the Romanians were incestuous and crime-driven. Mr Kelly, the representative from the Big Issue, felt the comments to be unacceptable and racist.”

The court was told that Tucker, of Grosvenor Street, Barrow, had 11 previous convictions, which included common assault and using racially or religiously aggravated words towards a Malaysian woman in Barrow four years ago. continues here
